Sweetens Cove returns with two new Tennessee bourbons inspired by the course that started it all. The 5-Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon marks the brand’s first permanent release, approachable yet full of depth. Dunwoody, a 6-Year Wheated Bourbon, pays tribute to the legendary tree that once overlooked the first tee, offering a richer, smoother take on Tennessee tradition. Together, they embody what Sweetens Cove does best: craftsmanship, camaraderie, and the joy of a pour worth sharing. |
This week’s Whiskey Wednesday drop takes us to South Pittsburg, Tennessee, home to the nine-hole golf course that inspired one of bourbon’s most spirited brands. Sweetens Cove Spirits is releasing two new expressions, the flagship 5-Year Straight Bourbon and a limited wheated 6-Year known as Dunwoody.
Following last week’s Brothers Justus Founder’s Reserve 3, a bold American single malt that captured the essence of Minnesota craftsmanship, this week’s release turns our attention south. Sweetens Cove celebrates the simple pleasures, good bourbon, good stories, and the good company that makes them memorable.
Sweetens Cove Spirits was born out of a ritual at the Sweetens Cove Golf Club, a quirky nine-hole course where players toast the first tee with a shot of bourbon. It’s a place that values camaraderie over competition, and that same spirit defines the whiskey that bears its name.
Founded in 2020 by Peyton Manning, Andy Roddick, Drew Holcomb, Skip Bronson, and Jim Nantz, the brand quickly earned acclaim for turning golf tradition into liquid storytelling.
As Roddick told a news report,
“Sweetens Cove is about savoring life’s little moments, whether on the course with friends or at home with family.”
Sweetens Cove’s newest additions showcase two distinct takes on Tennessee bourbon. The 5-Year Tennessee Straight Bourbon serves as the brand’s first ongoing release, crafted for everyday enjoyment with balance and approachability. The Dunwoody 6-Year Wheated Bourbon offers a softer, richer profile that highlights the influence of wheat and celebrates one of the golf course’s most enduring symbols. Together, they reflect the brand’s evolution from limited luxury drops to timeless Tennessee craftsmanship.

Smooth and approachable, this 5-Year release balances honey, caramel, and toasted oak with a touch of spice. It’s crafted for versatility, equally at home in an Old Fashioned as it is poured neat after a long day. As the brand’s first permanent bottle, it’s meant to be the everyday Sweetens pour.
Nose: Honey, warm brown sugar, and cedar
Palate: Caramel, cigar leaf, and butterscotch
Finish: Smooth and lingering with vanilla and baking spice

Named after the legendary Dunwoody Tree, this wheated bourbon brings a softer sweetness to the lineup. Expect notes of vanilla, toffee, and brown sugar layered over a gentle oak finish. It’s the kind of bourbon that lingers, much like the memory of a perfect round with old friends.
Nose: Vanilla, caramel, and a hint of orange zest
Palate: Buttery sweetness with orange peel, floral spice, and toasted oak
Finish: Long, creamy, and balanced with soft spice and mild oak
The Sweetens Cove course has become a legend of its own, a nine-hole masterpiece designed by King-Collins Golf that welcomes golfers from around the world. With no clubhouse or dress code, it’s built on respect, community, and fun.
The Dunwoody Tree, which inspired the 6-Year’s name, stood tall beside the first tee until it fell in 2022. Its story now lives on through the whiskey that shares its name, a reminder that some traditions are too good to fade away.
Sweetens Cove is a celebrity-founded whiskey brand that doesn’t rely on its names alone. Manning and Roddick teamed up with a team of enthusiasts to bring authenticity to every bottle. While early releases were blended by master distiller Marianne Eaves, these two new expressions mark the beginning of a new chapter, one rooted in accessibility and balance.
Esquire named Sweetens Cove, "The #1 Celebrity Spirit in the World."
Thanks to its blend of craftsmanship, storytelling, and genuine Tennessee soul, it’s no surprise.
These releases represent evolution. The 5-Year opens Sweetens Cove to a wider audience with an everyday pour that still feels premium. Dunwoody, meanwhile, leans into heritage and nostalgia, the kind of bourbon that earns its spot on your shelf and in your golf bag.
Both bottles embody what makes Sweetens Cove special: approachable whiskey that still tells a story.
Sweetens Cove’s new releases prove that great whiskey doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be friendly, familiar, and rooted in something real. Whether it’s a nod to a fallen tree or a first tee tradition, these bourbons remind us why moments, like good whiskey, are worth savoring.
