In this first Thursday Review, we dive into the highly anticipated 2023 release of Bomberger’s Declaration by Michter’s Distillery.
This bourbon brings a rich history, bold flavors, and an unforgettable tasting experience.
Welcome to our first Thursday Review by Whiskey Social! We will start with a very anticipated yearly release, Bomberger’s Declaration by The Michter’s Distillery. I had the pleasure of tasting this whiskey a few years ago, and I was not disappointed! That being said, I am excited to revisit this whiskey with their 2023 release.
Poured in a glass, the bourbon retains its deep colors, although a brighter orange tint emerges. After a few swirls, this whiskey has an excellent viscosity, hugging the glass and not letting go!
Ribbon candy and licorice with subtle notes of leather. A second waft creates citrus and bubble gum notes.
The 108 proof is not overwhelming but warming, with dark fruit flavors developing as the warmth dissipates. A lot more oak was detected on the pallet than in the nose, but it was by no means overwhelming. The candy aspect captured in the aroma is very apparent.
The whiskey finishes with a candied apple flavor that slowly fades, leaving a subtle oak finish on your pallet.
Overall, it is a lovely whiskey that pays homage to the history of one of our country's top distilleries. At the right price, it is worth enjoying, although I won't be paying any secondary prices for this one. This is an excellent choice if you're looking for a highly palatable, higher-proof whiskey!
